Ambika Aiyadurai, Ph.D.

Ambika Aiyadurai is Associate Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at IITGN. She is an anthropologist of wildlife conservation with an interest in human-animal relations and community-based conservation. Ambika has more than 20 years of research in Arunachal Pradesh doing anthropological research on wildlife conservation. She completed PhD thesis in Anthropology from the National University of Singapore in 2016. She is trained in natural and social sciences with masters’ degrees in Wildlife Sciences from Wildlife Institute of India (Dehradun) and Anthropology, Environment and Development from University College London funded by Ford Foundation. Her monograph “Tigers Are Our Brothers: Anthropology of Wildlife Conservation in Northeast India” was published by Oxford University Press (2021). She co-edited a volume ‘More than Just Footnotes: Field assistants in wildlife Conservation in Arunachal Pradesh (Bookwell Publication). Her latest co-edited book ‘Beings and Beasts’ was published by Cambridge University Press (2025).
