Academic Integrity

” The time is always right to do what is right. “

 Martin Luther King, Jr.

Commencement, Oberlin College

June 1965

Academic integrity is about honesty. Academic integrity is upheld by individuals. By doing our own work when it comes to school assignments and taking tests, we learn to think as unique human beings and make original contributions to scholarship.  Academic integrity is also a social concern — it is about trusting what is presented as scholarship and knowledge.  Practices, like acknowledging the contributions of others to our thinking, treating evidence carefully, and doing our own work, are the basis for that trust–and the antidote to “fake news.”  The world depends upon each generation to learn and follow the practices that make up academic integrity.
